Welcome to My Personal Page
Dear Friends,
It's 2023. Hard to believe Tim died 15 years ago.
A LOT is happening on the ALS front. Which is why we need your support more than ever!
First and foremost a drug that you all helped fund was approved by the FDA in April 2023 for people afflited with the SOD1 gene mutation version of ALS. This is tremendous news. This drug tofersen (Qualsody) is just the first out in a pipeline of drugs teed up to address various forms of ALS. While not a cure, Qualsody was shown to slow the progression of ALS especially when given early in the disease. This is leading more and more scientists to look at how early ALS can be diagnosed and whether drugs administered early in the disease (or even before the person shows ALS symptoms) might slow or even STOP the disease. This is huge.
In addition, I am working on ALS PREVENTION. Sounds impossible right? This year I helped get a bill passed through the CA legislature that will require all ALS cases to be reported to the CA Health Department for tracking. Why is this important? Because we may have clusters of ALS in CA that are tied to neurotoxins in our environment. (Detroit is working on this with known clusters of ALS likely tied to air pollution), We need to have the data to help us identify whether we have clusters of ALS in CA and ways that the disease might be prevented.
Finally as you may know, I am a Board Member of The Golden West Chapter of the ALS Association (soon to be known as ALS Golden West) which is the largest ALS Chapter in the United States raising more money and serving more people with ALS than any other group. As you may have read, we along with many of the largest ALS chapters in the country changed our relationship with the national ALS Association this year. I am so excited about this change because one of the things we can now drive ourselves is early stage research. ALS Golden West is surrounded by some of the most prestigious medical researchers in the world. We have many potential research projects on the table. Won't you help us fund more and more projects though your donations this year?
So in memory of Tim, his father Ken Davis and his grandfather Glenn Davis who all lost their lives to ALS, I'm making a $2,000 donation to the Napa Valley Ride and a $1,000 donation to the LA Ride to Defeat ALS. Any size donation you can make will help greatly.
THANK YOU dearly for your support. And as always, thank you for your enduring friendships. And please remember to NEVER GIVE UP.
With Love,
Linda, Luke and Chansey.
