About Me
I was diagnosed with ALS in November 2022, after nearly a year of searching for answers to loss of mobility in my hands, along with unexplained weight loss and other concerns. It's a blow to find you have a rare disease with no cure, but I have incredible support from Mandy and our two daughters, Savannah & Tessa, who help me to maintain a positive outlook. I've received lots of help from Kaiser's ALS Clinic team in San Rafael, Team Gleason, and The Golden West Chapter of the ALS Association.
Why I Ride...
On Saturday, September 23, 2023 (mine & Mandy's 34th anniversary!) I will be walking in the ALS Association's Napa Valley Ride to Defeat ALS & Walk. I'm walking to support everyone who's affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness for the urgency of finding treatments and a cure.
What is ALS?
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.
Why We Need Your Help
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
- The average life expectancy of an ALS patient is two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
- ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease. Someone you know or love may die from ALS unless a cure is found.
- Caring for a loved one with ALS costs on average of $200,000 each year. Again, without help from the ALS Association, treatments and care would be impossible to afford!
