Why do I need your help?

My husband John has ALS.

This Fall will mark ten years since he was diagnosed with this disease. Ten years of deterioration, where he now needs daily care to bathe him, dress him, and feed him. Deterioration that now requires a lift to get in/out of bed and a power wheelchair for mobility. But since the life expectancy for ALS patients is 2-5 years from diagnosis, I'd say we are quite lucky.

Through these years, there have been two constant blessings in our life: the ALS Association Golden West Chapter and your steadfast support.

I cannot describe how valuable the ALS Association is. We get face-to-face care manager support, monthly support group meetings, research seminars, and a medical supply loan-out closet. All of this is made possible through the generosity of friends like you.

We all have organizations or causes that are personally near and dear to us. With so many people in need and only so much money to go around, our choices can be difficult. In our case, be assured that all of the money raised at the Hawaii Walk to Defeat ALS stays in Hawaii and benefits John directly.

ALS is no longer “Lou Gehrig's Disease”.
ALS is our disease.
