WHY I WALK
The simplest tasks we do without even thinking are more and more difficult to manage…zippers, buttons, dressing, hair care, makeup, shaving, opening a lid, using utensils, pulling weeds, writing, picking up anything small with the fingers or anything that weighs more than a couple pounds. No more driving,
ALS doesn’t discriminate and no one yet knows why people get it…WE NEED ANSWERS! The answers won’t help me or cure me but I truly don’t want anyone else to suffer this awful disease. The caregivers (cALS) suffer almost as much as the patients. The ALS community continues to need your support.
I’m Laura Nielsen Miller, team captain for Team MILLER TIME, and am in my third year post diagnosis, but it’s been determined I’ve had this disease for at least five years. The good news is, it appears I am on track for living beyond the 2 to 5 year average for those of us with the disease. I am so very thankful for that, and a relatively slow progression. I’ll get to meet my second grand-daughter in September and make more memories with my beloved husband, kids and precious friends!
Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! The annual Walk to Defeat ALS® is very important to me, as it raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find effective treatments and cures.
As a person with ALS (pALS) -Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, I of course am passionate about supporting our organization, which works so hard to support us and our caregivers, enduring this nightmare disease. ALS is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
A person with ALS becomes physically locked-in as the disease progressively paralyzes the body. The key to UNLOCK ALS begins with us.

The past few years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families. We can't stop now! It is only together that we will defeat ALS!
