WHY I WALK 

Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS®is very important to me, as I know the pain and loss that comes with this terrible disease. My mom was diagnosed March 28, 2022 a day after her 58th birthday. 

On August 23, 2022, my beloved mother, Silvia Elicea Gonzalez rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings after a hard battle with ALS. She died peacefully at home surrounded and held by all her children.

The Walk to Defeat ALS® raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find effective treatments and cures.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure. 

A person with ALS becomes physically locked-in as the disease progressively paralyzes the body. The key to UNLOCK ALS begins with us.

This past year seeing my mother deteriorate from this horrible disease makes me realize h the importance of research and progress to finding a cure. I pray that in my lifetime there will be a percentage that can defeat this disease.
