WHY I WALK 

Thank you for helping me reach my goal, this walk  is very important to me, as it is to so many living with this disease or for those who have lost a loved one to it. 

The Kern ALS Walk raises funds to support LOCALLY those affected by ALS and also to spread awareness of the urgency to find effective treatments and cures. The local funds are to help support those in the community still fighting this battle. The needs are for respite that is invaluable to those catering for a loved one, equipment in which they are denied by insurance if simply equipment that isn’t covered. 

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.

The past few years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families. We can't stop now! It is only together that we will defeat ALS!  

After the walk we will enjoy lunch and sone time to get to know sone of the folks that support our ALS community throughout the year and those who advocate for us snd with us.
