In Loving Memory of David Jordan
Welcome to Our Story
David was in great health and recently semi-retired when he was diagnosed with ALS. He was given 2-5 years to live, and he lived his best life each day while battling the relentless daily progression of ALS robbing him of his ability to use his arms, hands, legs and finally his voice and ability to breathe. Friends and family were in awe watching David navigate the challenges with optimism, humor, courage and unbelievably even joy. David was 74-years young and lived 19-months from the time of diagnosis.
The Golden West Chapter was there for us from the beginning. Their wrap around model of care allowed us to see every specialist in the field on a single day visit to the clinic. Our Care Manager, Cindy Marks, was engaged with us every step of the way. Cindy’s depth of knowledge and endless energy and desire to obtain equipment, resources, information and coordinating and leading our support group meetings, had a profound impact on our journey and we will be forever grateful. Through her efforts we built an amazing community of friends all experiencing ALS in diverse ways but walking the path together.
Golden West has funded over 159 global research projects in 10 countries. One of the most exciting of these projects is RELYVRIO, the first newly developed treatment in years that slows the progression of the disease. The Chapter had a significant role in supporting this research and in relentlessly advocating for fast-tracking early FDA approval. This is just one example, in the area of research and advocacy, of the work they do every day.
Our family is committed to fighting for all of those in the struggle today and those that will be diagnosed each day while we work towards a cure.Even with insurance, the average family spends over $200,000 each year to manage life with ALS. It is essential to not only help support those living with ALS today, but to continue the work to find new and improved treatments and to continue to search for the cure.
This annual fundraiser is our opportunity to make a difference to those in the fight each day and those hearing the words “you have ALS.” If you are able to help, please join me as we follow David’s example of fighting this disease with optimism, hope, and humor.
With much love and gratitude,
Eve (always with David)
David always said he didn’t know how he got ALS since he was never that good at baseball (Lou Gehrig).
