A note from Hal's wife and caregiver, Fran Finney:
On July 29, 2009, my husband Hal Finney and I started out on a 30 mile bike ride together, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Hal was fatigued, and we had to shorten our ride. One week later, on August 5, 2009, our world was rocked when Hal was diagnosed with ALS. Hal lived valiantly with ALS for 5 more years, and passed away in August, 2014. It has been seven years since Hal died and I feel his loss every day.
You can ask anyone who has encountered it and the answer will be the same, ALS is brutal. More than 80 years after famous baseball player Lou Gehrig made the world aware of this disease, there is still no known cause and no cure, not even a treatment to stop its unremitting progression. This year, on Saturday, May 14, 2022, I will be participating in The ALS Association Golden West Chapter's sixth annual SoCal Ride to Defeat ALS and Hike/Walk. I ride to honor Hal and for all those who are face ALS every single day. I ride to help find treatments and a cure and hope you will join us as we Never Give Up in Hal's honor.

4. Caring for a loved one with ALS costs on average of $200,000 each year.
